Logic of English Essentials is a complete course in how English spelling works that incorporates grammar, basic composition, and vocabulary program while equipping students with the skills they need to read and spell proficiently. It systematically teaches the reasons behind English spelling, equipping students with the phonograms and spelling rules that explain the spelling of 98% of English words.
Essentials is designed for any student age 8 through adult who needs to strengthen reading or spelling skills. It may be used both for main classroom language arts instruction for upper elementary students and as a reading or spelling intervention for older students.
Ten optional Pre-Lessons equip teachers to strengthen struggling students' foundational skills before beginning Unit 1. Three levels of application to choose from within each Unit allow teachers to customize the level of difficulty. This means that Essentials can be used both as remediation for weak readers and as an advanced spelling course for strong readers.
Essentials is not a literature program. The optional Essentials Reader is an optional reading comprehension and composition supplement designed for use alongside Essentials. It is designed with the needs of the older struggling reader in mind, but it can also be used as the core reading program for 3rd or 4th grade. Students who are already reading comfortably can use any literature program alongside Essentials.
