Sounding Out the Sight Words is designed for any teacher or parent looking for a better alternative to rote memorization and sight word drill for helping students read the most common high-frequency words.
This book contains short, streamlined lessons that enable you to teach students the phonics and spelling concepts they need to read all 220 Dolch Words and 95 Dolch Nouns, as well as thousands of additional words. It can be used to supplement any reading program or as a way to teach any child who is required to memorize "sight words" why these words are spelled the way they are and how to actually read them. Since each lesson is only about ten minutes long, they are easy to use at home in the evening or to add as a component of language arts instruction during the the school day.
While Sounding Out the Sight Words is not required with Foundations or Essentials, which teach the same phonics concepts and words more thoroughly, some people who are teaching a full Logic of English curriculum find it helpful to keep this book handy as a reference or a tool for extra practice as well.
