Each unit in Essentials is divided into five parts. Every student is different, and there is also slight variation between different parts and different units, but on average each part takes about 45-60 minutes.
If you are using The Essentials Reader or The Rhythm of Handwriting alongside Essentials, allow additional time to complete these parts.
Some Essentials teachers complete one part each day. Others break some or all of the parts across multiple days. There is no one "correct" schedule; the best pace depends on the age and attention span of the students as well as the time available in your day. It is more important to work on the concepts every day than to complete a certain amount within a set time.
If you divide the parts over multiple days, we recommend adding in a few minutes of review or a phonogram or spelling game each day, so that students continue to get frequent practice with the skills they have been learning. There is review included throughout the lessons, but more may be needed if you are spreading a unit out over a longer period of time.
