Some children who are already reading and who are beginning to write and spell can skip Foundations A and begin at B.
We do not recommend skipping Foundations B. However, with some students, it may be appropriate to move quickly through this level and slow down once you reach level C.
- To explore whether A or B is the right starting point for your young student, use our Starting At Foundations B Assessment.
- For tips on adjusting the pace and level of challenge when starting Foundations with an early reader, and to learn about why we do not recommend skipping B, see Starting Foundations with children who are already reading on the LOE blog.
- For any student age 9 and above, and most 8-year-olds, we recommend starting with Essentials. Learn more.
