Probably not. It will work to keep using an older edition with newer Logic of English materials.
There have been a few changes over the years as we continue to learn more about the language and refine how we teach it. If you are using a newer edition of one of our Essentials or Foundations books with older cards, you can add to or update your existing set of flash cards as you encounter the rules in the lessons.
What changed when? Spelling Rule Flash Cards history:
1st edition (2011): The original 30 Logic of English spelling rules.
2nd edition (2014): We added Spelling Rule 31, about schwa. This rule is taught in both Essentials (starting in the 2nd edition) and Foundations. Learn more.
3rd edition (2015): We broke Spelling Rule 31 into three cards, Spelling Rules 31.1, 31.2, and 31.3, for ease of instruction.
4th edition (2018): We expanded Spelling Rule 7, about where I and Y can say /ē/, and split it into two cards for ease of instruction. An updated card is available to download as a PDF. Learn more.
